Gray clouds gathered above the RiverClan camp as Cloudstar's faithful warriors staggered in, behind them, Leaftail and Icefang carrying the limp body of Crestscar. The deputy's eyes were clouded with death, and the recocgnizable stench filled his nose. "Crestscar is dead." Leaftail murmered, her green eyes clouded with greif. "I'm sorry Cloudstar," The leader stood rigid with shock, eyes wide. "How did this happen?" His voice cracked. Icefang had her head low. "I couldn't save him...the badger..." she trailed off. "Icefang, you can't save everyone." He touched his nose to her white-and-silver-striped shoulder. "How can I be a Medicine cat, if I can't save any cat's?!" She wailed, "Badger attacks almost always result in death.." Leaftail murmered, turning to her sister. "It wasn't your fault." Cloudstar breathed in. "Dragonmist wll understand. A badger did this? What happened?" Leaftail stepped forward. "Icefang, Crestscar, and I went out to collect herbs, and Crestscar scented the badger near the training hollow, it tried to attack me, but Crestscar pushed me out of harm's path, the badger killed him instead." Leaftail's voice was so soft he could barley hear. "His neck is broken." Cloudstar whispered, moving towards his deputy's body. He grabbed the tom's scruff and pulled him beneath the Moss Rock. He leapt to the tom of it. He didn't have to call the cats out, for they were all surrounded beneath the rock, wailing and murmering in confusion and shock. "Crestscar is dead!" Cloudstar yowled. "A badger did this. Near the training hollow. No cat's are to leave camp alone, no apprentices are to be brought near that area. We will wait until it leaves, it won't be long, seeing it is uncommon for badger's to be found here." Cloudstar's voice rang out clear in the camp. "I will announce the new deputy soon.." He jumped down from the rock. "You may all pay your respects to our brave deputy who was killed saving another cat. I will sit vigil with whoever else wishes to. The elders will bury him at sunrise." and with that, the sorrowed leader stalked off to his den to be alone.
